why crime and men!

During my routine life whenever I read the newspaper in the morning, when I hear about my maid's everyday sufferings, when I watch the reckless driving on chennai roads, when I witness an unwarranted abuse......... I wonder why men(male gender) have an affinity to crime?
Am I feminist? Definitely not.
You may agree with me, if you too read about the numerous crimes by men all over the world everyday; if you too have a cook or cleaner whose husband spends all her earnings in alcohol and beats her for more; if you are a decent driver who wants to follow rules, if you were ever in the vicinity of terrorism!
Why? why the hunger for violence? why the desire to hurt? why the anxiety to overrule? Am not talking about everybody, but the majority. God or nature made them so? Let it be. But can they not change for good? For the good of this world, good of the children, good of those numerous poor women who lose their happiness and pride everyday to take care of the supposed to be providers!
Do I hate these men? No, am actually surprised by the way they live and sympathise their inability to live beautifully. Will the good God who made them transform them?
I remember Osho's writing now. He said humans stopped evolving long back. Information does not make you evolve, you have to transform to grow. The Change! The Big bang change!

I agree with you Shanthi, and I see it in simple day to day things as well. I'm not talking only about violence or crimes, but also about susceptibility to pressure, ill-temper, anger...men seem to be more prone to all this than women. I guess women are stronger. It will be interesting to see the comments you get from the male species on this post :)

Hello,

Why the ‘Y’ ? As everyone knows well that this y chromosome, which is responsible for the aggression, dominant traits is again responsible for its aftermath, violence and crime. I personally believe what matters in determining a man’s qualities are the composition of his X and Y chromosomes. [Don’t read in between the lines of genetic composition,]. The X being softer and Y, the opposite. But, this is the nature’s set up; men being men and women being women with their associated qualities [Physical as well as psychological]. But not to forget the harsh X and Softer Y, exceptions are always there.

I Agree with you with in that crime and violence are increasing day by day. You switch on TV for News and they start it by saying ‘good evening’ and proceed to say why it is not so! Women being physically weaker and more dependent on men [Atleast in this part of the world and in most developing countries where illiteracy and poverty are rampant], are more prone for this kind of indifferent attitude.

‘Behind every man’s success, there is a woman’. Some years back, I used to add another phrase with this one: ‘Behind every man’s sorrow also, there is always a woman’. It may be true in a larger meaning even now. But the harsh reality and truth is that the women gender is not getting their due respect and deserved pride. My opinion had since evolved and now I also share the deplorable condition of the women gender as victims of crime and violence. Nowadays, I don’t adore these famous Tamil lines anymore, “Mangaiyarai pirappathirkey madhavam seiydhiruka vendumamma”.

As you expect a change, we all keep our fingers crossed for a change, which might not happen in the near future. That is nature. Let’s learn to live amidst these cruelties in life. More importantly, let’s have our close inner circle be cleared off these bad aspects as far as possible.

‘Just imagine how this planet would be if everyone of us takes this responsibility to their shoulder to clear the dirty feelings surrounding them.’

Regards,

Muthiah.p.

1]Being Tamil New Year day, I wish every species in this planet a happy new year.
2 Shanthi, sorry for a lengthy comment].

Kanchan, we got a nice response from my friend from the other gender.

I appreciate your sincere comments Muthiah. I also know the good Ys and not-so-good Xs ( I dont like the BAD word) in this world. But they dont make the majority, sadly.

Dear Shanthi
Can’t help but comment. You article is largely biased and seen from the society around you. Indian women from time immortal were submissive. This is not the case of women all over the world.
There are many statistics that you can get about Female Criminology. There may not be many women who commit what is legally termed as crime, but definitely men don’t stand alone.
I remember Bob Marley’s song ‘NO WOMEN NO CRY’Charles

Hi Shanthi,

I was recently reading about "Emotional Violence." Something which is not physical, but can be even more damaging. Like long periods of silence, or even over possesiveness. I think again men use emotional violence more than women!!!
